APRISOTM (mesalamine) extended-
release capsules are the
first and only once-daily 5-
aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) featuring
INTELLICORTM delayed- and extendedrelease
delivery—for the successful
long-term* management of UC.1
UC DISEASE OVERVIEW
UC causes inflammation and
ulcers in the lining of the rectum
and the colon. This inflammation
triggers the colon to empty itself
frequently, thereby causing diarrhea.
Ulcers then form where
inflammation has destroyed the
cells that line the colon. The result is
bleeding and the production of pus.
APRISO— A TREATMENT
OPTION FOR UC
APRISO is bringing the INTELLICOR
delivery system to the treatment of
UC, thereby addressing some of the
obstacles faced by healthcare professionals
in the treatment of the disease.
The delayed- and extendedrelease
delivery of APRISO is key in its
ability to focus treatment both where
it is needed and when it is needed.
According to a study conducted
by Fallingborg et al and published in
Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapetics,
at least 90% of the subjects
in the study reached a pH 6 in the
small bowel, and 25% of the subjects
never reached a pH≥ 7 anywhere in
the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.2 The
delayed-release coating on each granule
in APRISO dissolves to release
mesalamine at pH 6, gradually distributing
it throughout the entire colon.1
APRISO is the only pH-dependent 5-
ASA that initiates release of mesalamine
at this pH level, a level frequently
achieved in the GI tract as shown in the
study referenced above.
